The making
How the band was made
Five stages, from a tin in Kenyasi to the engraver's bench in Sunyani. Their story is in the metal.

01 · The gold
A nugget from Kenyasi, bought by Kwabena's grandfather in 1981 and kept in a tin for the first grandson to marry. He is the first grandson.

02 · The melt
Melted in Sunyani by the goldsmith who made both their mothers' rings. He asked for the date before he asked for the size.

03 · The cast
Poured into a band. They met in a queue at the Regional Hospital in 2021, both there for somebody else, and left with each other's numbers.

04 · The polish
Three years of the Sunyani to Accra road every other weekend, until she moved up for good. The polishing takes longer than the casting.

05 · The engraving
Cut on the inside, where only the two of them will see it. He proposed with the ring unengraved and asked her what it should say. This is what she said.
